In response to the need for strategic evolution at N-SIDE, I took the role of Technical Lead and Pacesetter for an ambitious project. This initiative marked a significant shift from our previous high-value, complex solutions to a more operational focus, specifically aimed at solving collaboration and efficiency issues in Clinical Supply Management.

The project was an opportunity to leverage a new technological stack, chosen explicitly for its ability to scale our product, our infrastructure and team more effectively.

Achievements:

• Team Collaboration and Leadership: Collaboratively led the project with two other leaders, representing product, market, and technology aspects. Successfully built and fostered a team environment where collaboration across these leadership domains was paramount, ensuring the project's success through unified efforts and shared vision.

• Strategic Product Shift: Guided a significant shift in our product strategy, moving from niche, complex solutions to a more operationally focused and collaborative solution. Where our previous solutions might require hours of computing time to generate a single result, Lighthouse was designed to provide near-instantaneous results, allowing users to see the impact of their decisions in real-time.

• Software Stack Transformation: Led the transition of our technology from an in-house platform to a state-of-the-art software stack, incorporating React, Nest.js, Kubernetes, and TypeScript. This upgrade significantly modernized our infrastructure, enhancing scalability and development efficiency.

• Development of the core engine: Led the development of the forecasting capabilities, delivering accuracy and speed in the predictions.

As the product usage grew and our team expanded in number, along with the extension of our product offerings, I stepped into the role of Solution Architect. I combined this role with that of Product Owner for our internal Technological Plaftorm.

This transition marked a shift to a wider strategic role, where I contributed significantly to enhancing our applications and supporting the evolving needs of our teams and users.

Achievements:

• Refining the Technological Platform: As Product Owner, I focused on refining our technological platform to better suit the needs of our evolving products.

• Strategic Capability Assessments: I carried out strategic assessments of our applications' capabilities, pinpointing areas for improvement and guiding our product development strategies.

• Leading Key Design Initiatives: I continued to engage in hands-on work, leading critical design projects that required my depth of experience, and developed prototypes to validate these designs.

• Mentoring in Solution Design: Committed to team growth, I provided training & guidance in solution design processes, design principles, and patterns, enhancing the team's overall design acumen.

In this role, I combined strategic planning with active involvement in design and development, aiming to drive product enhancements and cultivate a culture of innovation within the team.

Promoted to the role of Technical Lead following my successful implementation of the simulation engine for patient demand in clinical trials, I spearheaded the creation and then the technical direction of the Supply app.

This application has now been adopted by numerous pharmaceutical companies, including about half of the top 20 pharma companies globally to optimize the supply chain of over 10,000 of their most complex and critical trials, significantly impacting the industry.

Under my leadership, the project grew from a solo endeavor to being supported by a team of over five skilled software engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Technical Leadership: Guided the team in the development of the Supply app, ensuring the application met the highest standards of quality and performance.

• Solution Design: Led the design of the application, ensuring that it met the needs of the end-users and was scalable and maintainable.
• Core Development: Let the development of the core engine of the application, using Discrete Event Simulation to model the complex supply chain of clinical trials.

Achievements:

• Engine migration to more flexible and powerful Technologies: I led the design and implementation of a new Discrete Event Simulation engine written in Scala. This advancement replaced the previous engine, introducing greatly improved flexibility and power for modeling a diverse range of clinical trials.

  • This transition marked a significant leap in the application's ability to handle complex simulations without the need for constant trial-specific code adjustments.
  • The new engine also allowed for the integration of new features and capabilities, such as the ability to model the depot resupply and IP manufacturing.

• Platform Transformation: I guided the transition from a Java Swing-based single-user desktop application to a cloud-based, multi-user platform. This transformation not only enhanced the user interface but also facilitated a more efficient, collaborative, and accessible experience.

These contributions were pivotal in moving away from a previous application that addressed similar needs but with limited flexibility, scope and reach.

In my role as a Software Engineer at N-SIDE, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of groundbreaking projects across multiple industries. These projects included determining energy prices with Euphemia, scheduling hot metal flow in steel making, simulating patient demand in clinical supply chains, creating prediction models for energy prices, and developing a forecasting tool for payroll in the healthcare industry.
